Lane Assist Most Switched Off

Lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist were the most disabled features, especially in WA and QLD,  up to 56% of those who turned off anything.

Annoyance Over Risk Mitigation

69% of drivers said features beeped or flashed too much, making them distracting rather than helpful, the top reason for turning them off.

Lack of Trust Still a Concern

13% of drivers simply said they don’t trust the safety tech, fearing it might react incorrectly or unpredictably during real-world driving.

Parking Tech Also Unplugged

Parking sensors and assist tech were switched off by up to 27% of drivers in SA.

Most Still Believe in Safety Features

Despite the distrust, 59% of Australians still believe modern safety features reduce accident frequency and severity.

The research findings were compiled through a national survey with a representative sample of 2,007 Australian car drivers aged 18+ and was conducted by Pure Profile in June 2025 on behalf of AAMI.
